Athletics: What’s Happening

Soccer Recap


On October 16, the boys soccer Under 13 Team travelled to Ashbury College in Ottawa, ON to take part in the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) Under 13 Tournament. The team came away with the “Johnny McGrath Sportsmanship Award” – an award given to the team who demonstrated the best sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Grammar will host the boys’ tournament in October 2020.


On October 2, the Under 15 girls soccer team traveled to Montreal, Québec for the annual CAIS Under 15 girls tournament. Over the three-day competition the girls earned 4th place out of 10 teams after a 2-0 defeat against Lower Canada College in the semi-finals.


Cross Country Highlights


  • On Thursday October 3, Grammar elementary students took part in Athletic Conference of Independent Schools (ACIS) meet at Point Pleasant Park. The students finished first in team points with a grand total of 75. More details below.


  • At the Halifax Regional Centre for Education Cross Country Meet on Friday, October 11, our Intermediate Cross Country team (Ayrton Stein, Daniel Nickerson and Will Kanellakos) ran their hardest, earning them the coveted championship title.



  • At the Capital Region Cross Country Race held at Point Pleasant Park on October 18, our senior boys (Luka Chiasson, David Waller, Austin Hache, Elliot Kachan, Moritz Heidenreich) and girls (Arianna Nikolaou, Astrid Russell, Sophie Smith Stewart , Livia Dunn, Britt Drysdale, Lara Jollimore-Behie , Anna Bakowsky) country teams won the regional banner and advanced to the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division (NSAFF) Provincial Championships on October 28 in New Glasgow at Trenton Park.

Jr. Boys A:

  • Nov 18 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.

  • Nov 20 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.

  • Nov 21 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.

Upcoming Games:

The senior girls basketball team will play their first home game against Sir John A. MacDonald on Tuesday, November 12 at 6 p.m.

The senior boys team will play their first home game on Monday, December 2 against Dartmouth High School (this game will be televised on East Link).


The annual Grammar Classic Tournament will take place on Dec 5-7 this year in our new gym. This year's tournament will feature both the boys and girls divisions with four teams in each division. The tournament will be round robin style with the top two teams advancing to the championship game on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the girls and 3 p.m. for the boys. Come out and show your support for our student athletes as we showcase our basketball talent to the Grammar community.


Volleyball

Our Middle School boys and girls volleyball teams have the following home games coming up in November. If you haven't had the chance to come out and watch a volleyball game in our new gym come on by and check out our new competition court and cheer on our student athletes.

Wednesday Nov 13 @ 4p.m. versus Oxford


Boys Home Games:

Thursday Nov 7 @ 4 p.m. versus Gorsebrook

Hockey

The Grammar middle school hockey team will take part in the annual ACIS tournament on Nov 14 to 16 at the new Saint Mary’s University (SMU) arena. Games take place between 12 - 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15.


The championship game will take place on Saturday Nov 16 in the morning at SMU. For more details on the tournament schedule please contact our athletic director Mr. Joseph at sjoseph@hgs.ns.ca
